The Down at the barns Youtube channel was started in 2020 after the anxiety of my theatre school business having to close due to the Covid lockdown, it was at this time that my brother in law encouraged me to follow the story of his Triumph Stag conversion, and my goodness what a journey that has been!
Why Barns?
I had always wanted to create a youtube channel having dabbled with film making for many years, and this gave me the content and opportunity to do so. So why Down at the barns? Like a classic car a ‘barn’ sounds more romantic and idyllic than a just a garage! it’s basically the place where it all happens, where it lives, where it’s cherished, a classic car is an emotional attachment so Down at the barns it is!
On Four Wheels
I have always had a love of cars and particularly classic vehicles, as I child I would spend my weekends cycling around the various dealerships of the day collecting car brochures, my fascination really kicked off when my brother gave me his set volumes of ‘On Four Wheels’ a magazine publication from the late 1970’s and I was really into all the different makes and models, I had no idea how they worked I was just intrigued particularly with how certain models developed over a period of time, I collected car models and proudly became a member of the Aston Martin and Lagonda fan club and pleaded with my parents to take me to the factory open day in Newport Pagnell.
Car passion and film making
My father owned an eclectic range of cars from Rover 3500 to the Austin Princess and the Jaguar Mk 2 to name but a few and although he never owned one my favourite’s which has always been the XK140, so to bring things full circle the idea of putting two of my passions together film making and classic cars has been a shear delight and I feel it doesn’t matter how your classic car is powered, whether it’s been modified, converted or restored it’s all about the individual stories of people and their love, passion and dedication to those great vehicles of the past.
